Welcome to Grace Land College
Dear Parents, 13th Dec. 2013
Christmas Newsletter
We bring you season’s greetings and tidings of
peace in this yuletide. While appreciating God for the successful
conclusion of the term, we pray for his watchfulness and benevolence
over your affairs as the year draws to an end.
ACADEMICS- Find enclosed
the evaluation report of your child for the first term of the 2013/2014
session. The report is holistic and assesses the three major areas of
educational development. Take time to peruse closely the assessment of
your child and give thoughts to the comments on the report. We advise
that parents should make out time to discuss performance with their
children while assisting them to set realistic targets for the next
term.
IGCSE/SAT- Our vision
is to provide our students a truly global experience that will prepare
them for the challenges of the future. In view of this, in the coming
year, we shall start tutorials for the Cambridge Exam and the American
SAT. Besides creating opportunity for admission into universities
abroad, these exams are benchmark for assessment of standards. Parents
who desire that their children be prepared for these exams are required
to indicate interest. This will help us in planning and providing the
foreign textbooks that cover the curriculum for these examinations. The
benefits of early preparation cannot be over emphasized.
DISCIPLINE- We place
deep value on Christian ethos and strong moral character. These are
foundations for producing disciplined people with disciplined thoughts
and actions which in turn, are cardinal in having a good success.
Against the backdrop of this, we give moral instruction and Christian
education weekly for character building. The level of decadence in
society demands that parents be vigilant to spot and discourage negative
behavioural tendencies as they bud in children. We have observed that
notebooks and other items get missing in school. We have seen notes and
textbooks of some students willfully destroyed by other students when no
one is watching. Parents should please caution their children at home
as we will not hesitate to flush out these few bad eggs from the school.
CCTV- Closed Circuit
Television comprising of sixteen cameras have been installed in and
around the school premises. This is to provide increased security
monitoring and vigilance in the school as the safety of every student is
paramount.
BOARDING HOUSE- With
effect from next year, the visiting days for the boarders will be every
second Saturday of each month, from 11am to 5pm. Our Sundays will be
devoted to worship, rest and preparation for lessons against the week.
Boarders are encouraged to return with their personal games/sports
equipment such as table tennis bats, badminton rackets, tennis rackets,
squash rackets and life jacket (floater). As a matter of policy boarding
students should always return dressed in their school uniforms with their school fees bank drafts. No student will be checked in who flouts this policy.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS- We
organize group birthday celebration for the students on the last Friday
of each month, except for the months of vacation, where we adjust to
meet convenience. Birthdays are organized to celebrate our children and
give them a sense of worth and honour. Parents who desire may get
whatsoever they have for the celebration on these days only.
2014 YEAR BOOK- In
the culture of continuous improvement, our 2014 year book is a treasure
for every student as it showcases the student’s strength, work,
accomplishments and creativity. It is a memorabilia for years to come.
Interested parents and business concerns who want to leverage on the
spread of our year book should contact Linda, the Front Desk Officer, on
08106179481 or 07083470913 for advert placement.
2014 SUMMER EDUCATIONAL MULTIACTIVITY PROGRAMME-
As part of our programme for an all-round education, we are
organizing another educational multiactivity summer trip for the 2014.
Next year’s vacation programme will be in the USA/Canada. Early
planning, booking and visa application are necessary for a successful
oversea programme. Parents who are interested in these trips should
contact Dorothy on 08034234360. Registration for this programme will be
concluded by 30th April, 2014.
MISCELLANEOUS- The
school blazer, which is our official ceremonial wear, has arrived. For
your information and convenience, we have included the cost in the
attached school fees schedule for next term. We intend that this
festive period be spent relaxed in the spirit of Christmas and the
coming New Year. We have therefore left out piles of assignments for the
students. Nevertheless, parents should find good reading materials and
buy for their children. It develops their vocabulary, word power and
language skill. The calendar for the rest of the session has been
attached for your guidance. Please ensure that school fees are
paid in bank draft drawn in favour of Graceland College, Enugu on or
before the resumption of school.
